So, what does it mean to transform? You may be thinking, “I’m too old to be transformed. It is what it is, I can’t change, the best I can do is accept it and move on.” But I believe we are transforming every day. We are ready to embark on a new year, 2019, and what better time to transform.
So, again, what does it mean to transform? Well, it means changing your posture, your body mechanics, learning better movement patterns, changing the responses of your brain to stress, anxiety and pain and actually rewire it! Our brains are adaptive. As we change our movement, our responses, our mechanics, our food, our outlook, our brain can change, and it can become automatic. What’s even more amazing to me, is how responsive our organs are as well. Surgery, posture, scar tissue, stress, illness, respiratory or digestive problems can change how your organs are moving and how they are positioned in your body causing other issues.
One thing I have continued to learn over my 40 years as a therapist is that everything is related. Your pain may be in your right leg, but the problem may be in your other leg, your back, your neck, your ribs, your lungs. What? Typically, where the pain is, is not where the biggest problem lies. What area complains is often the one that is being overworked or having to do more than its fair share of the work! The areas that are tight may be in a joint above, below, the opposite side or somewhere even farther away!
Sound interesting? These issues are the topics I will be discussing. I hope you will follow along. If you have specific issues, feel free to let me know and I can discuss them as well on another post. I think of your body as a puzzle and as we unlock the code and you learn better movement strategies, you will transform. These patterns affect your posture, balance, stability and function. It may take conscious work initially, but eventually it can become an automatic response. Change may not happen as quickly as we all would like, but it will happen. You can be transformed!
You are an inspiration!
