Philosophy

Judy is passionate about physical therapy and providing the best care possible for each of her clients.  She has an insatiable curiosity to learn about the human body, which has led her on a learning quest of continuing education for over 40 years in practice, always expanding her knowledge base.  She loves to integrate the information, resulting in her own creative and personal style using a hands on, manual therapy approach that is unique to each client she treats.  Over the last several years, Judy has added treating the viscera and organs to her repertoire, besides musculoskeletal issues, further allowing her to see the body as a whole, rather than a specific part.  She specializes in all orthopedic dysfunctions, including chronic pain. Her analogy to moving from pain to healing to wellness is like peeling the layers of an onion and resetting the movement patterns and the feedback from the body to the brain. She sees her job is to be the detective, evaluating the entire body and to guide the process using joint and soft tissue mobilization, posture, body mechanics, exercises and movement.  Getting well takes work and it requires gaining an awareness of yourself and where you are in space. Addressing specific concerns and goals of each client, helps them make changes in their life to be successful.

Education

Judy graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Kansas, later earning a Master’s level at the University of Indianapolis and culminating with a Doctoral Degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals.  She was the first in the state of Kansas to receive her Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 1996.  She is also a certified manual therapist from the University of St. Augustine.  She was an adjunct instructor for Rockhurst University for six years and a guest lecturer also at The University of Kansas and Penn Valley Community College.  She has taught continuing education courses in the area and for the Kansas Physical Therapy Association and has been a mentor to many students, as well as therapists she worked with and trained for the last 12 years at Elite Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. In 2014, she prepared an exercise video for inclusion-body myositis that is posted on www.myositis.org. Judy was the senior author for a chapter, Movement Issues with Chronic Ill and Chronic Pain Patients, for the book, Integrative Medical Nutrition Therapy: Principles and Practices, which was published in 2020. She was also interviewed by Dr. Jeanne Drisko about the chapter on her podcast, The Art and Soul of Healing.

Personal Interests

Besides physical therapy, Judy loves spending time with her family, including 5 grandkids.  She loves to travel with her husband, looking for challenges and adventure.  They love hiking in Colorado and Arizona and completed a 4 day backpacking trip into the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and out with their two kids. They have biked in the mountains of Vermont, kayaked 17 miles around the Nepali Coast, rappelled down a waterfall in Kauai, biked across Kansas and the Katy Trail, did ice climbing in Alaska and saw the Northern Lights in Finland. She has overcome chronic pain herself and loves to empower individuals with her unique skills, hope and optimism.
